The Clear Aligner Edge No. 1: They’re not braces!
While Invisalign® and Suresmile® are sometimes called “invisible braces,” they are really not braces. Notably, Invisalign® and Suresmile® differ from braces as they use a series of invisible aligners or oral appliances. These appliances slip over the teeth. They deliver consistent yet gentle pressure to the teeth when worn as directed, and this pressure gradually moves the teeth. They can also be removed for comfortable eating and effective brushing and flossing throughout treatment. Braces, however, are fixed appliances and cannot be removed by the patient. Plus, they must be regularly adjusted to ensure treatment progresses and stays on track.

Many of our patients appreciate that no one else has to know they are correcting crowding or bite imbalances. Invisalign® and Suresmile® are incredibly discreet. The aligners are made from a clear performance plastic. In addition to being invisible in the smile, the plastic itself is very smooth and flexes. So, patients don’t have to be content with wires, brackets, and bands that rub up against the inside of the mouth and create sores. There is also an “instant gratification” element; first, patients get to see their results revealed gradually. Their progress is not covered up by a bunch of dark, metal “hardware.” Second, thanks to utilizing advanced technology, Dr. Barton can show you how your teeth will look once they are treated with this system during your initial consultation. Special software is used to create a virtual model of your mouth and a simulation of the treatment process. So, you get to take your new smile for a test drive before committing to the process!
The Clear Aligner Edge No. 3: As hassle-free as can be!
With Invisalign® and Suresmile®, you are in the driver’s seat. As long as you wear the aligners as directed (for at least 20 hours each day) and in the correct order, treatment is comparable or even faster than with conventional braces. In fact, some of Dr. Barton’s patients have achieved their goal of healthy smiles in as few as six months! Since the treatment does not depend on a dentist or orthodontist adjusting appliances, check-ins or visits to our office are minimized. Furthermore, our patients have peace of mind that adjusting to treatment will not be painful or stressful and that they will not be vulnerable to new challenges. Their good oral care and diet are maintained throughout the treatment because the aligners can be removed prior to meals and brushing and flossing.
