You can’t beat the level of thought and intention that Dr. Taylor Barton puts into selecting each treatment available at our office in Edmond, Oklahoma. Dr. Barton and our team at Intentional Smiles strive for only the best for our patients. So, you know that our carefully selected technologies and services are in the best interests of your smile, health, and quality of life. As an alternative to conventional braces to straighten teeth, clear aligner therapy is a natural fit due to its aesthetic appeal, comfort, and well-documented effectiveness and safety.
Both aligners and braces can reposition gapped, crowded, and crooked teeth and “fix”correct jaw alignment or bite-related imbalances (such as an overbite). These orthodontic treatments differ in how they move the teeth. Braces use hardware of wires, brackets, and bands or elastics to generate the forces required to move the teeth. Braces cannot be removed or adjusted by anyone other than your dentist or orthodontist. Clear aligners are based on the same principles; they, too, place consistent force on the teeth to reposition them. However, they use a series of lightweight and transparent appliances to move the teeth. The patient can remove these appliances.
Yes, as long as you are a good candidate for clear aligner therapy. This option has been around since the late 1990s. It is one of the most widely researched dental technologies, so decades of research exist on its effectiveness and safety for us to lean into. Remember: The principles behind braces and clear aligners are similar. They use different appliances to achieve the even, straight teeth that support a healthy, balanced-looking smile.
First, schedule a consultation. During your visit, Dr. Barton may even use special software to show you how your smile will look after treatment. This is a great way to try on your smile before you commit to treatment. Second, if it is determined that you are a good candidate for clear aligners, these appliances are made based on 3-dimensional models of your mouth. They are precisely fitted to conform with the contours of your teeth and bone. Once the first aligners are ready, we will review how to wear and care for them. Generally, you should only remove the aligners before eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth. You’ll also need to keep them clean, which helps to inhibit bacterial overgrowth (keeping your teeth and gums healthy throughout treatment) and prevents stains from forming on each aligner tray.
In addition to straightening your teeth, we may blend orthodontic treatment with professional teeth whitening. The aligners may be filled with a powerful whitening gel so you can lift stains as you straighten your teeth!
